Responsibilities

Complete Building Services (CBS), is adding a Water Treatment Technician for a large facility/campus in Washington, DC. The Water Treatment Technician is responsible for monitoring, testing, and maintaining water treatment systems across the campus to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards. This includes treatment of domestic water, boiler water, cooling towers, and closed-loop systems. The technician ensures proper chemical dosing, equipment function, and reporting to support safe and efficient building operations. 

 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Perform daily checks and testing of boiler water, cooling towers, chilled water loops, and domestic water systems
  • Record data and analyze results to ensure systems remain within defined operational parameters
  • Calibrate and use chemical testing kits and digital instruments to measure water quality indicators (e.g., pH, conductivity, hardness, biocide levels)
  • Safely handle apply and apply treatment chemicals including corrosion inhibitors, biocides, pH adjusters, and scale inhibitors.
  • Operate and maintain chemical feed pumps, controllers, tanks, and monitoring systems
  • Refill and replace chemical drums and containers as required.
  • Inspect and maintain water treatment equipment such as softeners, filters, pumps, and feed systems.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions and perform minor repairs or escalate to supervisor as needed.
  • Coordinate flushing of systems and assist with water-related shutdowns or startups.
  • Maintain accurate logs and service reports for regulatory compliance and internal auditing.
  • Follow OSHA, EPA, and institutional safety guidelines for handling chemicals and working around mechanical systems. 
  • Support environmental sustainability and energy efficiency goals through proper system maintenance.
  • Assist with training of new staff on water testing procedures and safety.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts involving water leaks or contamination issues.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the facilities team. 

Hours: Monday-Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm

Salary: $42 per hour, depending on experience

Qualifications

  • Water treatment, or related field experience preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in commercial water treatment system operations.
  • Experience in safely handling water treatment chemicals or similar hazardous substances.
  • Ability to complete maintenance and basic troubleshooting unsupervised.
  • Experience with BMS systems and HVAC energy optimization strategies, preferred.
  • Knowledge of local and federal HVAC regulations, preferred.

Job Competencies:

  • Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building management systems (BMS).
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC controls, energy management systems, and refrigeration equipment.
