Complete Building Services, a building operations/facilities maintenance company, is seeking a Chief Engineer for a large (1,000,000 sq. ft.) facility in Reston, VA. CBS is a division of The Donohoe Companies, Inc. - Washington's oldest real estate company.





  • Responsible for the building's systems including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and the supervision of technicians
  • Ability to work with Government client in a collaborative manner
  • Serves as the site lead in the absence of the Project Manager
  • Develop and implement plans and schedules to achieve company and department goals
  • Develop processes, procedures and standards for the facilities operational performance
  • Read and understand contract and RFP requirements
  • Create an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual support among employees and toward the client
  • Review work performance of subordinates, and recommend training to improve performance
  • Assists the PM with safety compliance
  • Manage and maintain the completion of the facilities scheduled PM's through the CMMS
  • Assist with the compliance of local, state, and federal code including environmental compliance
  • Demonstrate competency in other disciplines such as HVAC, plumbing and/or electrical
  • Ability to plan, organize and meet project deadlines
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and prioritize work, as required
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of engineering and building systems
  • Ability to read, review, and understand blueprints
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Excellent written, and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, CMMS and project tracking software
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Must possess a minimum of four (4) years' experience within the past six years (6) in the management of building mechanical maintenance operations and supervision of technicians for facilities of 500,000 square feet or more
  • The Chief Engineer must possess a valid stationary engineer's license equivalent to a First Class Engineer (DC) as well demonstrate competency in other disciplines such as HVAC, plumbing and/or electrical through a combination of education, professional registration and experience
  • Shall be available for emergency contact via cell phone twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week, 365 days a year
  • Shall be available to work flexible hours as required in response to emergency situations
  • Industry certification from: International Facility Management Association (CFM, FMP and/or SFP), Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI), or Association for Facilities Engineering (AFE) are highly desirable
